Post Sound Quality Question
I just downloaded the Forest Hills show and the sound quality is a bit muddled. I used flac-frontend to convert them for my IPOD. Is there anyting I can do to improve the sound quality? I have seen something about converting to AAC format, but I think that is all about size, not quality. Currently the files are WAV.

Thanks!

The file format has no bearing on the sound quality (unless you start converting it to really low bitrate MP3 or AAC...)

Sadly, you'll probably find that what you didn't like about the sound is just a result of the equipment used to make the recording (bear in mind it's just some guy in the audience with a handheld mic!)

Post Interesting!
I did a conversion to AAC and it sounds a whole lot better to me. brought up the backgrounds a bit. A little more work witht he sound card EQ and it sounds very nice!

Thanks

That's weird - AAC should sound worse than WAV! WAV is exactly what the show was intended to sound like by the person doing the transfer - AAC is an inferior compressed version!

Both Forest Hills gigs from '82 have been found in much better versions and in lower generation in the food chain. I'm not sure if these are available on any of the hubs or peers. They've been out and about for a couple of years at least -- 4 more cassettes I never bothered to transfer.
