 Easiest SHN/FLAC -> MP3 converter?
Hello,
Sorry for the dumbish question, but...
Does anyone have reccomendations on the easiest FLAC or SHN to MP3 converter. Of course, preferably free, with a full easy to use GUI, hopefully simple tagging, etc.
Essentially, I want to torrent, get the flacs, and dump them on my iPod/MP3 player with as little effort as possible (I'm really lazy these days).
I know there have been posts like this before, but times change, and I expect there's a new popular converter out there now.
Or maybe not???
Thanks!!
David

I have always used Foobar2000 for my flac/shn to mp3 conversions. Foobar converts pretty much any audio file to any other. I've never had problems with it and it's fast and fully configurable. http://www.foobar2000.org/

 Re: Easiest SHN/FLAC -> MP3 converter?
Sorry, but I'm spassing out and need help before I explode. I recently upgraded my pc, which basically means nothing works anymore. I tried to download Foobar, but you can't convert to mp3 without a LAME.exe file on the PC. I tried to download LAME, but it only came down as a .tar.gz file, which I suspect is an archive which I need to unpack, and my Windows does not help me to do this, so I suspect I need yet another program to unpack this file - or do I miss something?

Winzip should be able to unzip a .gz / tar file.

WinRAR also works on .gz and .tar files, although WinZip has a nicer interface.
Does the file really end in ".tar.gz"? I've never seen a file that had both extensions together. Maybe someone zipped it twice! If so you'll have to unzip it, and then you'll have a regular .tar file, and then you'll have to unzip that. Be sure to scan for viruses at every stage.

 Re: Easiest SHN/FLAC -> MP3 converter?
.tar.gz is common in the Unix world. tar combines files into one big file the gz (gnuzip) does the compression. Winzip should handle both and it should just act like any normal zip file.

[del]So what do I do if I have a newly installed version of Windows 7 and apparantly neither Winzip nor Winrar is on the computer?[/del] Nevermind, realized Winrar is now a freeware.

 Re: Easiest SHN/FLAC -> MP3 converter?
The biggest drawback of Foobar ( http://www.foobar2000.org/ ) is that it only has Windows version. What if Mac users want to convert SHN/FLAC to FLAC? In this case, you may prefer to this step by step guide to convert SHN/FLAC to MP3 on Mac OS X. It also applies to Windows OS and convert SHN/FLAC to WAV, M4A, ALAC, AIFF, AAC, AC3, DTS, AU, WMA, etc. Hope it can help you more or less.
